Alexander Barclay, aka, Socky or Alfie to all his pals, was the life and soul of Berries Hotel Larkall for over 35 years.

Every body was his pal pal and although he was a wee bit slow and had a wee speech problem he was the most genuine, honest, loving wee man you'd ever meet. Every one loved Alfie. He was more than just a glass collector in Berries. He was like family to the Lambie family and the owners Alex and May Lambie loved him to bits. Alex and Mays kids, Pauline, Alexander and Elaine worshiped him and he was so protective over the 3 of them. For 25 years he was like an uncle to them.

Alfie lived for his night off. He would sit at the big table with his pint of lght and the domino box, skinning the regulars and shouting, here kitty kitty. He was always the winner as he used to hide the dominos in his socks!!!
He also thought the world of his big sister Betty. She looked after him most of his life and kept him independant. She must really miss him.

Also his love was the pub dog Butch. He called him Butchy boy and Butch followed Alfie everywhere. That was his pal.

He fought cancer long and hard and passed away May 2006 whilst watching his favourite sport, Snooker, in Betty's house. That was a sad sad day and ever since his passing Berries was never the same. He was so sorely missed by all and always will be.

To me Alfie was a wee star and loved to sing. Especially Rowan Tree which he would dedicate to his late mother, Minnie.
Alfie and his memory will live on in my heart forever and I hope I see him again one day, but until then he will be in my nightly prayers.

Rest in peace pal pal. I'll never forget you my friend

Light a candle for those we mourn.

Into a new life they will be born.

Do not look for them at the gravesite.

They are somewhere else radiating their beautiful light.

They have gone to a new world where there is no darkness, no pain.

Their light and essence will always remain.

Light a candle for those who have left this mortal place.

They are free to travel through time and space.

When we think of them, they are near.

When we sit in a beautiful garden. Their voices we hear.

When we listen to a divine symphony,

We close our eyes, their faces we see.

Light a candle for they have not really gone.

With each flickering flame, in your hearts they will always belong.
